Description
I've been wanting to do a paleoart work featuring a woolly rhino for some time now. This one here is calling out across the plains for some of his friends and family. He has just found a small copse of trees that is sheltering some yummy vegitation during the cold winter months.
The woolly rhinocerous existed so recently that there are actually depictions of them in neolithic cave paintings. They lived in Europe and Asia and likely came into contact with other pliestocene megafauna such as woolly mammoths. Pretty much their appearance was just like modern rhinos except that they had a furry coat that made them better suited to living on the cold steppes of Asia.
My standard paleoart disclaimer: When it comes to paleoart, the images I create favor 'art' more than 'paleo'. While I try my best to depict animals as accurately as possible, I'm make no claim that they 100% scientifically accurate. The same goes for the environment I depict them in. I am primarily interested in creating aesthetically pleasing images. Scientific accuracy comes second.
