Title
Fox in the Forest
Artist
Daniel Eskridge
Medium
Pastel - Oil Pastel
Description
A fox sits on a mossy overgrowth in a dense forest setting. She is portrayed with a high degree of realism, showcasing her vibrant orange fur with white and black markings, especially around the face and the tip of her fluffy tail. Her eyes are detailed, giving it a lifelike and alert expression.
The background features the various shades of greens and browns of a lush woodland environment. There are trees with textured bark, and the ground is covered with foliage and moss. The interplay of light and shadow suggests a canopy overhead, with some areas of the forest floor illuminated more than others.
The painting is done in a style that balances detail with a slightly impressionistic touch, particularly around the edges of the fox and the forest, giving a sense of movement and wildness to the scene. The animal has a gaze that seems to connect with the viewer.
From the artist: I had a booth at an art fair in the fall of 23 that featured a lot of my wildlife themed works. I got lots of compliments and several big sales. One of the most requested subjects though was that people wanted more works depicting foxes. So in early 2024, I decide to give this one a go.
The original is an 11"x14" oil pastel on archival quality sanded paper made using Sennelier oil pastels with some Faber Castell Polychromos oil based colored pencils for the details. It has been fixed with five coats of Sennelier's fixative for oil pastel.
