On a wooden table, a white candle illuminates a sinister still life. Among the items pulled from the darkness is a jar full of eyeballs, a cup made from the skull of one's enemy, a bottle poison, a kris knife, a revolver, and a few bullets. A grim setup indeed.
When I was in college, I had to do a paper on a particular type of still life known as pronk, a type of Dutch painting featuring rare, imported, and expensive items. I had the idea to create such a still life, but one that represented a villain rather than a wealthy merchant. I like the way this one turned out, particularly the skull cup.
