Artist's Description
The great horned owl is one of the most well known owls of North America. It's also been called the Tiger Owl and Hoot Owl, and has the widest range of any owl in the Americas. It hunts at night and mostly eats small mammals.
I've been working on an image that features several different breeds of owls. For each one I have to create a digital sculpture, and, since the great horned owl has always been my favorite owl, I started with it. I created this image as a test of my sculpture, but I though it turned out well enough to be an artwork on it's own.
About how I create my artwork:
Rather than traditional forms of art such as painting or photography, I use a computer to create my images., It's called 3D Rendering and works like so: I make a scene by sculpting and arranging digital models in a virtual 3D space., After stipulating lighting and atmospheric effects, I have the computer create a simulated environment from which I take a virtual snap shot...
About Daniel Eskridge
Daniel is a classically trained artist. A native of the East Cobb community in the Atlanta Metro area, he majored in art at the University of Georgia and has since accumulated over 25 years of art experience. Most well-known for his scientific illustrations of prehistoric creatures, he is also accomplished in creating Wild West art, fantasy art, wildlife scenes, and horror illustrations. His works have appeared in magazines and newspapers; the covers of books, albums, and products; and even in a few science and natural history museums.
