Artist's Description
A mysterious hand emerges from the waters holding a golden chalice from which pours five streams of water. A dove perched on the side of the cup drops in a coin with a cross on it. In the waters float lotus flowers.
This is the "Ace of Cups" one of the Tarot cards. It's full of a lot of symbolic meaning:
The cup represents the subconscious.
The five streams represent the senses as well as emotions and intuition.
The hand represents ones self awareness of their spirituality.
The sea of lotus blossoms indicates spiritual awakening.
The dove is symbolic of divine love.
I get requests from time to time to make tarot themed art. I've found that I really enjoy the symbolism behind the elements of a card.
The ace of cups was particularly fun as the image lends itself to surrealism more so than other cards.

About Daniel Eskridge
Daniel is a classically trained artist. A native of the East Cobb community in the Atlanta Metro area, he majored in art at the University of Georgia and has since accumulated over 25 years of art experience. Most well-known for his scientific illustrations of prehistoric creatures, he is also accomplished in creating Wild West art, fantasy art, wildlife scenes, and horror illustrations. His works have appeared in magazines and newspapers; the covers of books, albums, and products; and even in a few science and natural history museums.
