A Quarter Horse is a breed of horse that originated in the United States. It's best known for its short-distance speed, particularly in quarter-mile races, which is how it got its name. While they are best known for their speed in short distances, Quarter Horses are highly versatile and are used in a variety of equestrian activities, from rodeo events like barrel racing, calf roping, and team penning, to English disciplines such as show jumping and dressage. They are often praised for their calm and steady temperament, making them suitable for riders of all levels. The breed has its roots in colonial America, with influences from horses brought over by the Spanish, as well as other European and native breeds. The desire for a faster horse over short distances led to selective breeding, eventually resulting in the creation of the Quarter Horse.
This came from a request and is actually my first Quarter horse. The coat for Quarter horses can vary quite a lot, but I've been in a buckskin mood as of late, so decided to go with that. This horse has a bit more of a compact and muscular body than my usual horses. I went with a simpler setting for this one, but still spiced it up a bit with a few purple flowers growing among the grass. I added the mountains just to make the background a little more interesting and then the spruce trees to frame the horse.
