Description
"Clash of The Ice Age Beasts"
Two of the most fearsome creatures of ice age Europe are having it out. A rogue male cave lion (panthera leo spelaea) has wandered too close to a grazing woolly rhino (coelodonta antiquitatis). Much like what happens when the modern rhinoceros and lion cross paths, a confrontation occurs. Kicking up snow and rocks, the rhino charges the lion while the great cat attempts to circle behind the thundering behemoth. It's a prehistoric battle between two of the mightiest Pleistocene animals.
This image is part of my paleoart series. I liked it so much that I made it my new cover image for my Facebook page.

While I try my best to depict animals as accurately as possible, I'm make no claim that they 100% scientifically accurate. The same goes for the environment I depict them in. I am primarily interested in creating aesthetically pleasing images and paintings. Scientific accuracy comes second behind artistic expression.

Daniel, this is endlessly fascinating to me ... first the image itself just pulls me right in ... the action .. the story that's being told ... but then the layers of technical work just blow my mind ... not a clue how this is done, and I guess, like the magician's illusions, it's better that way!!
