A roan coated wild horse stands in the long grass of the plains of the American West. On the horizon a line of clouds, illuminated orange by the evening sun, rolls across the sky. In the distance, a bolt of lightning streaks down from that approaching front. As if heralding the storm, a wind gusts across the prairie whipping the horse's mane and tail.
I made this work as a bit of an experiment in wider format, something that makes the viewer's eyes have to travel across the artwork. Typically, my horizontally oriented compositions have a 1.6:1 aspect ratio (the Golden ratio). This one, however, is much wider with a 2.66:1 ratio. It's the same as what CinemaScope movies of the late 1950s and early 60s used. I rather like the epic feel it lends to the scene.
