Formal Title "Una and the Lion"
A serene scene depicts a young woman in a flowing white dress walking alongside a lion and a lamb in a sunlit forest. Her floral crown and gentle demeanor create a sense of harmony among the diverse creatures.
Una is the main character in the first book of the Faerie Queene, by Edmund Spencer. She travels with a white lamb which represents her innocence. The story begins with the Redcrosse Knight rescuing her from a dragon. Later in the story she encounters a lion who becomes her protector.
From the artist: I'm a big fan of Arthurian legend, and the Faerie Queene is thick with it. So, I like creating artworks based on it. This one in particular is inspired by one of my favorite works of the same subject by Briton RiviĆØre.
