A white unicorn stands majestically on top of a rocky hill. A wind blows its white main and tail while it points it's golden spiral horn into the deep blue sky.
This one is part of a series of unicorn themed images that I've been working. Most artwork plays up the fantasy aspect of unicorns, surrounding them fairies or dragons, placing them in front of swirling colors, surronding them in overly bright and flowery environments, or even having rainbows shoot out of their backsides. I, however, wanted to go for a more realistic look, as if this might actually be an animal you encounter in the wilderness. Most of the unicorn themed work I've done up till now has them placed in a forest where the woods are almost as much of the subject as the horse. You could take the creature out and still have a landscape painting. Here, though, I wanted the unicorn to really be the sole subject of the scene, so I put him on a rocky hilltop with only sky around.

Daniel is a classically trained artist. A native of the East Cobb community in the Atlanta Metro area, he majored in art at the University of Georgia and has since accumulated over 25 years of art experience. Most well-known for his scientific illustrations of prehistoric creatures, he is also accomplished in creating Wild West art, fantasy art, wildlife scenes, and horror illustrations. His works have appeared in magazines and newspapers; the covers of books, albums, and products; and even in a few science and natural history museums.
