Description
Once upon a time there was a prosperous but isolated village. For generations, their fields had been fertile and their food plentiful. They needed nothing.
However, there came a time, when the rains stopped for many years. Their fields dried and their crops dwindled. In order to survive, they had to make do with the barest of diets. They were miserable and weak, but they endured.
There was one particularly despicable man, however, who wanted more. On a dark and moonless night, he murdered then devoured his neighbor. Not only did he regain his strength, but he found that he was stronger than before. Moreover, he had acquired the skills and knowledge of his victim.
A few weeks later he took another, and became even stronger. It was soon obvious to the other villagers that he was stronger and healthier and more powerful than they. They start to surreptitiously follow him in with the hopes of learning his secrets, and so they did when he consumed his third victim. They should have stopped him from committing his heinous acts, but they were jealous of his power. So others too began to kill and eat their neighbors.
More and more, the villages turned to cannibalism. Their numbers dwindled until only the one man who started it all remained. With no one left to eat, and no people to tend what remained of their crops, he starved.
