Description
This has been one of my most acclaimed images to date. This picture is part of my Knightly Art series. I've been asked if it is an illustration to a particular story, but it is an original artwork that really just started out as a dying knight. It just evolved a bit as I continued to work on it.
I really wanted to highlight how medieval armor really failed when it came up against longbows. I also wanted to show how the romantic ideal of chivalry in the Middle Ages was so at odds with reality. To do so I added the knight's lady, ravaged and in shock, sitting forlornly in her torn dress watching her attackers casually ride away on horses perhaps stolen from the foreground characters.
This one was roughly inspired by a painting by the late Keith Parkinson for the cover of Terry Brooks' novel 'The Druid of Shannara'.

The truth, no doubt. It hurts on both sides. Excellent technical skill combined with dramatic concept. L/F/t
