Description
Upon the Isle of Lions, so named for it's large population of the great cats, a mighty king built a fortress. The purpose of this fortress was to act as a rallying point should his crusade fail and his army be routed. Once the stronghold was complete, the king and his army sailed on to war. Left behind was a garrison of young yet loyal knights. Day after day, year after year, the garrison watched horizon, waiting for their king to return. As the years marched on their numbers dwindled, till only one steadfast man remained, his only companions two lions, orphaned cubs found when the walls were still new. Occassionally a fisherman would sail near and see the lone knight standing upon the ramparts, his bronze armor gleaming in the sun, ever waiting for the return of the king.
Typically, I prefer my artwork to be more like a landscape painting and loaded with plants, yet for this picture I felt that any foliage would just detract from the sunset and cloudscape of this image. I'm actually most proud though of a subtle detail in this one - the smoke coming from the braziers. I thought it turned out well.
The lions and knight were posed in Poser 6. I created the brickwork using Hexagon. I then imported those into Vue 8 where I put it all together and did the final rendering. Rendering took about 5 days on an Intel i3 with 8gb of RAM. The lions' manes were extremely hard for vue to digest.
