"The Archangel Michael"

Wearing armor and holding a flaming sword aloft, the Archangel Michael subdues Satan whom he pins to the ground with his foot.

Christian art is not one of my usual themes, but I was doing some browsing of historical art and got inspired.

In art history, Michael is usually depicted defeating the devil with his angel wings spread wide and either a spear or sword in his hand. The scene comes from the Book of Revelation where he is described as leading the angels against the dragon driving it along with its followers out of heaven. Though it never actually says he directly confronted Lucifer, artists throughout history have painted it that way to depict a scene that is symbolic of the victory of good over evil.

I created this scene using 3D Rendering along with digital painting techniques.
