Artist's Description
A shaggy saber-toothed cat with a coat pattern resembling that of a cloud leopard shows you his wicked teeth in profile as he looks over his shoulder while sitting in a patch of grass. It is probably not a good idea to disturb a smilodon who is resting in the grass.
I was in the mood again to make an artwork featuring the sabertooth, my favorite of the pleistoscene animals and probably still my favorite large cat.
About how I create my artwork:
Rather than traditional forms of art such as painting or photography I use a computer to create my images. It's called 3D Rendering and works like so: I make a scene by sculpting and arranging digital models in a virtual 3D space. After stipulating lighting and atmospheric effects I have the computer create a simulated environment from which I take a virtual snap shot of the scene. Then using image editing software and something more akin to traditional painting techniques (via a Wacom tablet) I go over the wo...
About Daniel Eskridge

Daniel is a classically trained artist. A native of the East Cobb community in the Atlanta Metro area, he majored in art at the University of Georgia and has since accumulated over 25 years of art experience. Most well-known for his scientific illustrations of prehistoric creatures, he is also accomplished in creating Wild West art, fantasy art, wildlife scenes, and horror illustrations. His works have appeared in magazines and newspapers; the covers of books, albums, and products; and even in a few science and natural history museums.
