Heading directly towards you runs a powerful bison in mid-charge, its muscular body surging forward with intense energy. Its thick, shaggy fur is rich in texture, blending warm browns and deep blacks, highlighted by the golden glow of the rugged landscape.
In the background dramatic clouds swirl in the sky, mingling with patches of clear blue, creating an atmosphere of wild unpredictability. Snow-capped mountains rise in the distance, their jagged peaks contrasting with the rolling, golden plains. To the left stands a patch of dark evergreen trees stands, partially shrouded in haze.
The foreground is alive with motion. Dust and dirt are kicked up by the bisonās heavy hooves, scattering rocks and dry grass in its wake. The sense of movement is palpable, as if the viewer is witnessing a moment frozen in time, with the bison charging directly toward them.
From the artist: Growing up in the Atlanta area, I saw lots of horses, but never really bison. That changed though when I took my kids to see one at the Chattahoochee Nature center in Roswell, GA a number of years ago. I found the animal fascinating and took tons of photos. I made a few artworks shortly after and found that they were popular among art collectors. Throughout the years, I've made lots of digital paintings featuring bison, but this was my first using traditional media.
The original is a 24"x18" work on archival quality sanded paper made using Sennelier oil pastels and Faber Castell polychromos colored pencils. It's been coated with four coats of Sennelier's fixative for oil pastel, then a layer of glossy acrylic varnish.
