A young woman with long, wavy blonde hair stands at the entrance of an old stone castle or fortress. She is dressed in a medieval-style teal gown with intricate gold and red embellishments. By her side is a large, majestic wolf, which stands protectively close to her. This fantasy scene has a sense of mystery and enchantment. The colors are rich and earthy, with the greenery and stonework creating a natural, rustic atmosphere.
"Prince Wolf" is a Danish fairy tale about a young prince cursed to transform into a wolf by day and return to his human form by night. To break the spell, he must find true love despite his dual nature. A brave and kind-hearted maiden discovers his secret and, moved by his plight, befriends him. Through a series of adventures and trials, their bond grows, ultimately leading to true love. Her unwavering belief in him breaks the curse, allowing the prince to remain human permanently. They marry, uniting their kingdoms and living happily ever after. The story shares many similarities with other European fairy tales including "The Flea", and "Beauty and the Beast".
From the artist, this was one of my most challenging oil pastel works to date. At 22" x 28", not only was it larger than my usual work, but it is also one of my detailed works I'd attempted. I was quite pleased with the result.
The original is 22" x 28" on archival quality sanded paper. I used top quality Sennelier oil pastes from the bulk of the images, but used Faber Castell Polychromos oil based colored pencils for the detail work. I sealed it with four coats of Sennelier's fixative for oil pastels, then with acrylic varnish.
Thanks for looking!
