Description

A hunting dog, specifically, an English pointer, has been chasing a fox. The fox, however, has outsmarted the hound. Leading the hunter into a hollow log by a shallow rocky stream, the clever trickster has outfoxed his pursuer. The dog has gotten stuck in the old, rotting, fungus covered, log. Now, the victorious reynard stands looking down at the poor stuck dog. If foxes could laugh, this one would be having quite the chuckle.

This is another artwork set in my favorite kind of environment: the deep forest. For this one, I was inspired by classic hunting themed paintings that I saw in a man's study while touring a historic mansion. I rather enjoyed the strong earth tones of the art I saw there.

I created this artwork using digital techniques similar to those used in cinema for special effects. I construct the scene by sculpting or acquiring virtual models then arranging them in an equally virtual scene, defining the parameters for the lighting, atmosphere, camera etc. Next, I have the computer generate the artwork by taking a virtual snapshot of the scene, after which, I use more traditional painting techniques in image editing software to add finishing touches.
