A pair of otters sit on a moss covered log in a pond in a dense forest. The environment around them is richly detailed with dense foliage, including various trees and plants, creating a lush green backdrop. The water reflects hints of this greenery, suggesting a serene, secluded spot. The otters are rendered with great attention to detail, from their wet fur to their expressive faces, which convey a sense of curiosity or alertness. The painting style is realistic with a soft, painterly touch, emphasizing the tranquil and natural setting.
From the artist: I created this work for a water themed art show at the Chattahoochee Nature Center in Roswell GA. Of particular interest was that my very first oil pastel work was of an otter. It was fun to see a few years later how I had progress on the subject.
The original is an 18" x 24" oil pastel work on archival quality sanded paper. I used Sennelier professional quality oil pastels and a bit of Faber Castell oil based Polychromos colored pencils for details.
