Artist's Description
An ocelot is a medium-sized wild cat native to the Americas, known for its striking coat with dark rosettes and spots. Weighing 18 to 40 pounds and measuring 28 to 35 inches in length, they inhabit tropical rainforests, savannas, and scrublands from South Texas to South America. Carnivorous and primarily nocturnal, ocelots hunt small to medium-sized prey like rodents and birds. Solitary and skilled climbers and swimmers, they are listed as Least Concern by the IUCN but face threats from habitat loss, poaching, and the illegal pet trade.
From the artist: The scariest sound I ever hear was the cry of an ocelot. I was visiting a small zoo and kept hearing this terrifying sound echo through the whole park. Eventually we found the ocelot and found that it was just before feeding time. I could see how the sounds of this animal could inpire legends of bigfoot or some other mysterious creature. It was hard to match the frightening tones to what really is a wildcat only slightly large...
About Daniel Eskridge

Daniel is a classically trained artist. A native of the East Cobb community in the Atlanta Metro area, he majored in art at the University of Georgia and has since accumulated over 25 years of art experience. Most well-known for his scientific illustrations of prehistoric creatures, he is also accomplished in creating Wild West art, fantasy art, wildlife scenes, and horror illustrations. His works have appeared in magazines and newspapers; the covers of books, albums, and products; and even in a few science and natural history museums.
