A rain has just fallen and steam and mist fill a forested river valley that cuts through dark mountains covered in evergreens. The sun is just beginning to break through the clouds and is causing all the mists to glow. A moose bull steps out onto a boulder that overlooks the bend in the river.
I originally started this work as an excercise in creating a landscape image. I wanted to give this a dark moody feel to it, that sort of earthy feel one might see in a Hudson River School painting. I got the idea after seeing a painting of a river in the Adirondacks. To create a focal point I added the moose. I wasn't sure at the time that mooses were even present in that region, but a quick google search told me that indeed there are some mooses there.
