Description
This may look like a fox, but it is not. This is a portrait of a maned wolf, a predatory canine that inhabits the savannas of South America. It may look like a fox and may be called a wolf, but it is, in fact, a distinct species.
Over my vacation during the holiday season of 2023, I had the chance to visit the zoo in New Orleans. Due to unusually cold weather, most of the animals were off display. Their maned wolves, however, were out and were fascinating to watch. I decided to do a portrait of one that day.
The original is a 9.5" x 12" work made with the top quality Sennelier Oil pastels on Clairfontaine Pastelmat and is fixed with Sennelier fixative for oil pastels.
