Artist's Description

Lady Midday, also known as Poludnitsa, Południca, Polednice, Chirtel Ma, the "noonday demon", or "noonday witch," is a figure from Slavic and Eastern European folklore who is said to appear at noon and bring about feelings of lethargy, depression, and despair. She is often depicted as a figure of dread and evil.

In some stories, she is depicted as carrying a sickle, which is a tool used for cutting grass or reaping crops. The sickle is often used as a symbol of death and the passage of time in literature and art. It is also associated with the idea of reaping what one has sown, or facing the consequences of one's actions. In the context of Lady Midday, the sickle may symbolize the cutting down of one's energy and productivity during the middle of the day.

It is said that people should avoid to be outside during the noon time, to prevent being caught by her, as it can make them feeling tired and lazy. Lady Midday serves as a reminder to be aware of the impact of time an...

Daniel Eskridge

Daniel is a classically trained artist. A native of the East Cobb community in the Atlanta Metro area, he majored in art at the University of Georgia and has since accumulated over 25 years of art experience. Most well-known for his scientific illustrations of prehistoric creatures, he is also accomplished in creating Wild West art, fantasy art, wildlife scenes, and horror illustrations. His works have appeared in magazines and newspapers; the covers of books, albums, and products; and even in a few science and natural history museums.
