A red-tailed hawk spreads its wings as it perches on a pile of rocks. The bird of prey gives a stern look in your direction, looking a bit angry. Perhaps this raptor has just missed a meal on the ground is about to take back to the air.
No, it's not the name of a drink, but I liked the way the title sort of sounds like one :)
I was working out in a gym one morning. The elliptical I was on was next to a window that looked out into the room for the indoor pool. I wasn't really paying much attention until there was a loud thump against the glass. At first, I thought someone was in there mopping the floors or something, but when I looked I saw a hawk sitting there on the tiles by the pool. I'm used to seeing hawks perched on branches all the time as several breeds inhabit North Georgia, but this one looked a little strange standing on the tiles. It flew away out an open door soon after, but it gave me the idea to create an image featuring the bird perched on something...
About Daniel Eskridge

Daniel is a classically trained artist. A native of the East Cobb community in the Atlanta Metro area, he majored in art at the University of Georgia and has since accumulated over 25 years of art experience. Most well-known for his scientific illustrations of prehistoric creatures, he is also accomplished in creating Wild West art, fantasy art, wildlife scenes, and horror illustrations. His works have appeared in magazines and newspapers; the covers of books, albums, and products; and even in a few science and natural history museums.
