A cute little ferret peeks out a window. The ferret's expression is one of curiosity or cautious observation, with its round eyes wide open, and its whiskers prominently fanning out from its face. The rich tones of the ferret's fur, with its blend of dark browns, creams, and soft whites, contrast beautifully with the deep, earthy background, which is rendered in warm, shadowy hues. The lighting emphasizes the ferret's face and whiskers, creating a vivid focal point against the more abstract, painterly background. The style is expressive, capturing both the softness of the fur and the roughness of the surrounding textures.
From the artist: For this one, I was looking to do a pet portrait of an animal that had a bit let representation in art. I actually did a bit of research on some art related websites taking counts of how often various animals were depicted in art. I found that ferrets, though a popular pet, were just not very common in art, so I decided to give one a go. This was also my first work to be done on Canson Mi-tientes board which I found great for layering oil pastels but a bit more challenging for fine details.
The original for this artwork is a 16" x 25" Oil pastel on Canson Mi-tientes board. It was created using Sennelier oil pastels with a bit of detail work done using Faber Castell Polychromos colored pencils.
Thanks for looking,
