Description
A woman in a flowery dress walks along path that leads out of a dense green forest full of moss covered trees. In the distance, beyond the woods, a huge red dragon waits for her, perched on a towering pile of rocks. One flap of the beast's great wings creates a gust of air that rushes into the wood. So strong is the wind that it seems to try an push the woman back into the forest from which she is trying to emerge. Yet she presses on, her dress and long brown hair billowing behind her.
One of the great things about the form of art I do is that I can reuse models from previous works that I've made. In this case, I had an idea to create a path through a forest, but I really didn't have a particular subject in mind. To test out the path scene when I was finished I pulled in the woman model that I had first prepared for my work "Marooned" ( http://daniel-eskridge.artistwebsites.com/featured/marooned-daniel-eskridge.html ). I like the way it looked so much that I decided to keep it. For the clearing beyond, I decided I wanted something gave this image a theme of facing one's personal challenges. I decided that the dragon for my work "Fire Dragon" ( http://daniel-eskridge.artistwebsites.com/featured/fire-dragon-daniel-eskridge.html ) provided just the right amount of menace.
I made this using digital CGI and painting techniques. The characters were posed in Poser then exported to Vue for rendering. The forest scene was made in Vue as well. I used GIMP to do the post production work.

Art provides an opportunity for kaleidoscopic thinking. Each time we shift the lens of our perceptions, we gain new perspectives — and new opportunities for innovation. CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR RECENT SALE OF AN WONDERFUL WORK!

I can see her using powerful colorful magic, the story ahead, will she train, kill or communicate with the dragon.... so many possibilities. Love this one the most out of all of them.
