In a misty forest, after a recent rain a hiker runs from a huge grizzly bear. In his hand, the man holds a pointy stick...perhaps he just did something very unwise.
"Don't poke the bear" is an idiomatic phrase used in English to advise against agitating a potentially dangerous or volatile situation, person, or entity. It is essentially a cautionary metaphor, warning the listener not to provoke unnecessary conflict or awaken a source of potential trouble.
From the artist: I had a lot of fun with this image. I was looking to create a composition that included both a bear and a human. A lot of my early ideas had the bear and person in a somewhat more amicable situation, but then I had this idea of a chase pop into my head. At first I had the hiker holding a walking stick, but decided it would be more fun to turn it into a pointy stick, indicating that the man was responsible for is predicament. I really like the setting in this one as well with the misty waterfalls in the background.
I created this image with a combination of Sennelier oil pastels and Faber Castell Polychromos colored pencils. The original is 18"x24" on archival quality 600 grit sanded paper and is sealed with Sennelier fixative for oil pastels.
