Artist's Description
Breathing steam and kicking up snow, a great beast charges out of the fog. This is the bison, the great American buffalo that once dominated the plains of the west. This one is covered in frost and snow as if the prairie landscape itself has come to life to challenge you. The massive animal lowers his horns and stampedes strait towards you...better run
Buffalo, of course, are one of my favorite animals to depict in art. This particular work though was actually inspired by an image of a train, specifically J. M. W. Turner's "Rain, Steam, and Speed", I like the way a powerful thing was emerging from the fog and mist towards the viewer. So, I decided to make my buffalo image with a powerful creature doing just that.
