Arizonasaurus is an extinct genus of reptiles from the Middle Triassic period, about 240 million years ago. Its fossils were discovered in Arizona's Moenkopi Formation, giving it its name. Belonging to the Archosauriformes group, which also includes modern birds, crocodilians, dinosaurs, and pterosaurs, Arizonasaurus stood out for several key features:
This reptile had a lengthy neck and tail, stretching up to about 3 meters (nearly 10 feet). A notable characteristic of Arizonasaurus was its back sail, formed by extended neural spines, similar to those in the later dinosaur Spinosaurus and the earlier synapsid Dimetrodon.
