Description
The Arctic fox, known scientifically as Vulpes lagopus, is a small fox native to the Arctic regions of the Northern Hemisphere. This small carnivorous mammal is particularly well-adapted to cold environments, with features such as a thick, warm fur that changes color with the seasons—from white in winter to brown or gray in summer—providing camouflage against predators and prey. Weighing between 2.5 to 9 kilograms, Arctic foxes have a compact body shape, short muzzle and ears, and a long bushy tail, all of which help minimize heat loss.
From the artist: Animals with white coats are often some of my favorite subjects. They are always a bit of a challenge as the white picks up colors from the environment, and, in a snowy scene, like this, I have to be extra subtle.
The orignal is 20"x16" on archival quality sanded paper. I used Sennelier Oil pastels for the majority of the artwork, but also used Faber Castell Polychromos colored pencils (professional quality, oil based colored pencils) for the detail work. I used four coats of Sennelier's fixative for oil pastels to seal the image plus a couple of coats of acrylic varnish.
Thanks for looking!
