Archaeopteryx was in the news again this week: http://au.ibtimes.com/articles/188234/20110728/new-dinosaur-fossil-china-archeopterxy-birds-first-bird.htm. There is some chatter apparently that if might be reclassified as a dinosaur rather than a bird. I figured it would be a great opportunity to post a new Archaeopteryx artwork.
It�s likely that Archaeopteryx ate bugs, so I have this one on lunging at a dragonfly. I don�t normally do depth of field works, preferring to go for more a classical painting type scene, but it just seemed to fit here.
The characters were posed using Poser 2010, then were imported into Vue 9 where the rest of the scene was constructed. The Archaeopteryx model is by dinoraul which I got from renderosity.com. The dragonfly is from daz3d.com.
Daniel is a classically trained artist. A native of the East Cobb community in the Atlanta Metro area, he majored in art at the University of Georgia and has since accumulated over 25 years of art experience. Most well-known for his scientific illustrations of prehistoric creatures, he is also accomplished in creating Wild West art, fantasy art, wildlife scenes, and horror illustrations. His works have appeared in magazines and newspapers; the covers of books, albums, and products; and even in a few science and natural history museums.
