Description
Shortly after sunrise, a pair of ankylosaurs wander through a watery Cretaceous era lowland. One of the armored dinosaurs wanders close wading in a small stream with rocky shores. The other animal eyes you warily from more of a distance.
Ankylosaurus is one of the best known dinosaurs. It was also among the last of the non-avian dinosaurs. Like other ornithischians, Ankylosaurus was herbivorous. It died out shortly before or during the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event.
This is my first image to feature an ankylosaurus. My goal was to create something that leaned more art rather than scientific illustration to portray this prehistoric animal. So, I spent most of the time on the environment and lighting. The idea was not necessarily to create a clear depiction of the dinosaurs but rather to create an image that was enjoyable to look at hanging on a wall.
