An alligator lurks among the swamp grass. Next to it rests an old empty hiking boot. The fearsome reptile bears his sharp teeth at you as if to warn you away from his prize.
From the artist: I took a trip to lead a group of scouts on a canoe expedition to the Okefenokee Swamp in January of 2025. My wife and daughter helped out by piloting a jon boat to help tow the slower canoers. We all enjoyed the adventure and afterwards my daughter requested that I make an alligator themed work. So, this is what I did. It turns out that alligators (and I suppose crocodiles, too) are quite a challenge to draw with all the detail in their scales. All in all though, I’m happy with the results.
The original is a 9"x12" oil pastel work on archival quality sanded paper made using Sennelier oil pastels and Faber Castell Polychromos colored pencils. It has been sealed with Sennelier's fixative for oil pastels then coated with an acrylic varnish.
