A defiant looking young woman in a light dress faces you. Behind her stands her companion, a bay coated horse. The woman must perceive you as a thread for, in one hand, she holds a bowie knife. With her other hand she holds the horse’s head protectively. The scene is set on a grassy hill in the wilderness with a snow-covered jagged mountain rising in the background. The skies are dark and foreboding and mist rises from the ground indicating that a storm has just passed through, yet the wind still blows causing the woman’s hair and the horse’s mane and tail to dance.
From the artist: I got the idea for this image after a particularly violent Georgia summertime storm. For this scene, I really wanted to capture the mood of the moments that a storm has just wound down. I started with just the horse standing in the scene, but, lately, I’ve been wanting to include more humans in my art, so I added the girl. I really like the way he light colored dress stands out against the darkness of the background.
Thanks for looking, Daniel
