Artist's Description

I could see how deer might have been a pretty important part of smilodon fataliss diet. For this paleoart work, Ive depicted one such saber-tooth cat who has found a stag and two does. Too bad they are on the wrong side of the river. This particular smilodon must be giving serious consideration to learning how to swim. Perhaps saber-toothed cats went extinct because they couldnt build bridges ;).

The cat and whitetails were posed using poser then imported into vue where the rest of the scene was constructed and the final rendering done. Final rendering took about 24 hours. Post production was done using GIMP mostly to paint the deer hides which were pretty much flat brown beforehand, but also to adjust colors and add my signature.

The smilodon is the Saber-tooth Reloaded model by AM, purchased at Renderosity.com. The deer are older models by smith micro purchased at content paradise.com.
